A Breathtaking 8-Day Journey Through Sikkim – A State Less Ordinary, gave me an answer to a question I didn’t know I had—what does it mean to feel truly alive in nature? My two friends and I planned an 8-day whirlwind adventure in November, determined to see as much of this northeastern gem as possible. Here’s our journey.

Day 1 – Arrival in Gangtok

Our flight from Delhi landed in Bagdogra, and we began our trip with a scenic drive to Gangtok, stopping in Siliguri for lunch. By 7 PM, we checked into our hotel near MG Marg. The area radiates European charm—clean, organized, and beautifully lit. Dinner at a café and a peaceful walk set the tone for our trip.

Day 2 – East Sikkim Exploration

We began early, heading toward **Changu Lake (Tsomgo Lake)**, surrounded by mantra flags and steeped in spirituality. The lake reflected shades of blue under the morning sky, offering mesmerizing views. Next was **Baba Mandir**, a tribute to a revered soldier.

Our highlight was **Nathula Pass**, marking the Indo-China border. The chilling winds and the presence of Indian soldiers stirred deep patriotism. On our way back, we paused at Changu Lake again—its color transformed to silvery grey under cloudy skies. Back in Gangtok, we savored Sikkimese cuisine and walked MG Marg.

Day 3 – East to North Sikkim

Driving to Lachen, we made stops at **Gunjam Monastery** for insights into Buddhism, **Seven Sisters Waterfalls**, and **Naga Waterfalls**. The **Chungthang Valley**, where the Teesta River winds through, was a visual treat. As we neared Lachen, cold winds hinted at the altitude. We settled in for a chilly night.

Day 4 – Gurudongmar Lake & Lachung

Waking at 4 AM, we layered up for **Gurudongmar Lake** (18,000 ft). Despite the thin air, the lake’s surreal beauty and the mantra flags waving in the wind left us awestruck. The landscape felt like Ladakh—barren, majestic, unforgettable. En route, we saw quirky stops like the world’s highest dosa point.

After lunch, we continued to **Lachung**, stopping at **Bhima Nala Waterfall** before reaching our hotel.

Day 5 – Yumthang Valley & Zero Point

Although November meant minimal snow, **Zero Point** still offered scenic wonder. **Yumthang Valley** was heavenly—prayer flags fluttered as we wandered along the riverside amid misty mountains. In spring, this valley blooms with rhododendrons. We headed back to Gangtok that evening, staying at a cozy backpacker hostel.

Day 6 – West Sikkim: Namchi & Ravangla

Next was **Namchi’s Char Dham**, a spiritual park replicating India’s holy temples. Then we visited **Samdruptse Hill**, believed to fulfill wishes, and the iconic **Buddha Park in Ravangla**. The immense Buddha statue surrounded by gardens created a serene experience. We spent the night in **Pelling**.

Day 7 – Pelling’s Marvels

Our day began at **Khecheopalri Lake**, a sacred site for Buddhists. The peaceful setting and feeding the fish added to the spiritual aura. The **Pelling Skywalk** and **Chenrezig Statue** were modern marvels that made us proud to be in India.

The **Pemayangtse Monastery** and its museum intrigued us, and our trek to **Rabdentse Ruins** wrapped up the day with history and views.

Day 8 – Farewell to Sikkim

We woke to clear views of the **Kanchenjunga range**, a perfect send-off. With hearts full of memories, we drove to Bagdogra airport, vowing to return.

Sikkim isn’t just a destination—it’s a feeling. Whether you’re eager to taste authentic Lepcha food, delve into the depths of Sikkimese cuisine, or explore serene destinations like Kewzing village Sikkim, this state truly has something for everyone.
