We crafted this experience to showcase the road less traveled – those magical offbeat places & tourist spots in West Sikkim that most 2025 tour packages overlook. Among these hidden treasures, Kewzing stands out as an absolute must-visit destination that will transform how you see travel.
My own awakening came while wandering through Kewzing’s tranquil lanes. This wasn’t just another item on an itinerary – the village’s ancient monastery, warm homestay hosts, and unexpected moments of connection made me feel I’d found a second home. That’s the power of choosing the path less taken.
It began with a simple February departure from Siliguri – no checklist, just a hunger for authentic experiences. After a reflective evening in Gangtok, I found myself drawn to South Sikkim’s Kewzing (just 10km from Ravangla), where time moves to the rhythm of prayer wheels and shared smiles.
This is why we urge travelers to visit offbeat places & tourist spots in West Sikkim – not just to see new landscapes, but to discover new perspectives. Beyond the well-trodden paths lie villages where every interaction becomes a story, and every sunset feels like a personal gift from the Himalayas.
Kewzing Village – An Offbeat Chapter in West Sikkim Travel
The journey felt surreal. I shared stories with fellow travelers and hiked muddy roads near Temi Tea Garden. From the start, it felt like no other West Sikkim tour package could compare.
Kewzing means “land of wheat fields.” It is home to fewer than 90 Bhutia families. Surrounding the village are ancient monasteries: Bon in the north, Tashiding southwest, and Doling to the east. Clearly, this is one of the best west Sikkim places to visit for spiritual travelers.

At Samaghang Cottage, run by Urgen’s family, I found warmth. His mother’s kindness made my stay special. It rained when I arrived, but Urgen promised a clear sky next morning. He was right.
Luckily, I visited during Losar, a vibrant Buddhist festival. I was the only guest, so the family gave me their full attention. We shared stories and delicious food like hot thukpa.

Morning came, and so did the views. Snowy peaks of Mt. Kabru and Mt. Narshing sparkled from my window. On my walk, a cheerful monk invited me to Kewzing Monastery. We chatted along the way, surrounded by mountains.
Inside the monastery, I learned about their traditions and beliefs. Two young monks waved me goodbye. I returned for a hearty breakfast, happy and content.
Later, I explored the homestay’s orchard with Yumi, Urgen’s daughter. We picked oranges and played with dogs. The peace here made me forget time.
After lunch, I strolled around the village. Chestnut trees, cardamom fields, and unknown birds filled my view. The village was quiet but alive.
The day ended like the last — stories, tongba, and smiles.
Next morning, I left with a traditional scarf and oranges. Saying goodbye was hard. Yet, I knew I would return.
Visit Other Offbeat Places & West Sikkim Tourist Spots
Before leaving South Sikkim, I stopped at Doling Monastery. Perched on a hilltop in Barfung, this place remains overlooked. But it offers peace and reflection unlike any crowded tourist spot.
Colorful prayer flags danced in the breeze. The lake mirrored their colors. I stood in silence, mesmerized by the view. Then, I visited Buddha Park in Ravangla. Though busy, the 130-foot Buddha statue amazed me. I walked through the park and browsed the souvenir shops.
As I returned to Gangtok, my heart felt full. That journey gave me more than memories — it brought peace. Places like Kewzing and Kaluk are not just west Sikkim offbeat places. They are healing spaces. I definitely suggest you to visit Offbeat Places in West Sikkim at least once in 2025.
